For $82,150 and up, you can experience the awesome performance abilities of the new 2010 Jaguar XK Series
12th July 2009
They are not perfect cars, but they come very close to being. As you expect from one of the world’s finest sports cars, the XK accelerates with amazing quickness. An all-new direct injected 5.0L V8 comes in either a naturally aspirated or supercharged version. The naturally aspirated version produces 385 horses and 380 lb-ft of torque while the supercharged XKR, (rhymes with Cadillac XLR) unleashes an incredible 510 ponies and churns out 461 lb-ft of twist. These rear wheel driven street monsters are additionally powered by a 6-speed automatic transmission with controls for at-will manual shifting.
Fuel efficiency ratings are actually quite impressive for the 2010 XK Series by Jaguar. The base model delivers16/24 mpg city/highway (16/22 for the base model convertible) while the XKR takes you 15/22 mpg. Of course, Jaguar has made completely sure that every mile traveled in the new XK is a wonderful blend of high performance and luxurious comfort. The are loads of standard features in the spacious cabin - and all of them are conveniently located - and seamlessly integrated.
While $82,000 seems like a hefty price tag, the Jaguar XK is actually considerably less expensive than most of its class peers. Substantial changes have been implemented in both the coupe and convertible XK for 2010. One of the most significant is the addition of the rotary-style gear dial that was first seen in the Jaguar XF. The rotary dial ominously elevates from within the center console when the car is started. Further, the exterior has been freshened to be more bold and aggressive. On the inside, all materials have been upgraded and now present what has to be the epitome of luxury and tranquility.
Jaguar Drive Control has been integrated into the 2010 XK Series as well. This high-tech feature allows the driver to choose between 3 separate and distinct operational modes. Each mode represents a different degree of sporty responsiveness. Variables changed with each mode include throttling response, settings for suspension and the speed of shifting. Riding pleasure is maximized with new adaptive damping devices which allow the suspension system to be altered at will. Further, the rear differential has a slip-limiting feature that is electronically controlled.
The 2010 Jaguar XK Series is charging from the gates to directly compete with classy competitors like the BMW 650i, the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG - at a lesser price than all. All models present a graceful meshing of jolting speed, driver adaptability, safety and elegant comfort. If you are in the market for one of the finest automobiles on the planet today, then favor yourself with a test drive in one of the XK Series from Jaguar.
The model comes standard with 18-inch Tucana wheels with an option for 19-inch Custom wheels. The restraint system protecting occupants employs adaptive technology. Additional systems monitor tire pressure, vehicle stability and leveling. The headlamps (Xenon units) are automatic and have and adjustable delay for shut off as well as power wash. The windshield wipers are climate aware.
The interior is finished in leather with soft grain. The rear seats are heated to three levels and have sixteen-way positioning. Interor trim selections include either burl walnut or new elm. The audio unit is a standard combo and wireless connectivity via Bluetooth is standard. All of these features are included on the XJ8L ($67,750) which also has a rear sunblind (power operated) a lengthier wheelbase, and additional headroom for occupants in the rear seat.
The next level in the series, the Vanden Plas ($75,500), includes 18-inch Rapier wheels, parking control, interior trim of burl walnut with inlays of Peruvian boxwood, rugs of lambswool rugs, a 320-watt audio unit (Alpine), and navigation system based on DVD data.
The XJR ($81,500) is powered by a 400 horsepower V8. Finally, the top of the 2007 Jaguar XJ8 line is the Super V8 ($92,000), which incorporates all the features of the lower models as well as a a bench seat to the rear with six levels of power adjustment, climate control spread over four zones, and an entertainment system for rear occupants.
As well, there are dedicated fog light ports flanking the air dam, and gills (Jaguar calls them “power vents”) have been inserted just in front of the front doors. As with previous models, the XJ features aluminum construction and an air suspension that can automatically lower and balance the car.
Under the hood of the XJ, there’s the standard 300 horsepower, 4.2 liter V8 engine providing 310 pounds/feet of torque, or the XJR’s supercharged version of the same engine, which offers 400 horsepower and 413 pounds/feet of torque. Either way, there’s a six-speed transmission, traction control, and an electronic stability system, with all-disc anti-lock brakes, front- side- and side-curtain airbags rounding out the safety features.
Inside the 2008 Jaguar XJ, there are re-designed front seat-backs that allow additional knee clearance for back-seat passengers, and heated seats have become standard, while cooling for them is optional. Climate control is dual-zone, and the front seats have power adjustability. As well, Bluetooth connectivity that stores information for up to five cell phones has been added to this year’s model, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are standard, as are adjustable pedals.
The Jaguar XJ has a 22-gallon gas tank that requires premium unleaded fuel, and offers fuel efficiency that ranges from 15/16 mpg in the city to 22/25 mpg on the highway, depending on the engine in the car.
This model is a carryover from the 2008 model year. Generous power, high-end features, and the classic Jaguar style are all included in the XJ-Series. The traditional Jaguar sensibilities are in place like impeccable design and a great number of trim levels, so every buyer can find the exact XJ-Series model that fits his or her taste. However, with a base price of $65,700, the buyer pool is significantly lessened.
Inside, the 2009 Jaguar XJ includes Burl walnut accents, a wood and leather trimmed steering wheel, premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an optional multimedia entertainment system. This entertainment system features two 6.5-inch LCD screens built into the headrests and a DVD player. Bluetooth technology is included in every XJ trim level which allows drivers to make hands free calls while driving. A DVD-based navigation unit is available in the higher trim levels, and reverse park control is standard on all trims. This feature provides drivers with sound alerts when parallel parking, warning them when the 2009 XJ is too close to another vehicle. Power seats, mirrors, moonroof, and windows are all standard as well.
Under the hood, the Jaguar XJ-Series is fitted with either a 300 horsepower 4.2L V8 or an impressive 400 horsepower 4.2L Supercharged V8. All trims are equipped with a six-speed electronic automatic transmission. Ant-lock brakes, an electronic parking brake, and dynamic stability control are all standard also. Performance-tuned suspension is included in the XJR edition.
A wealth of safety features are standard on the Jaguar XJ like energy-absorbent seating, a tire pressure monitoring system, and complete airbag protection for all five passengers. The energy-absorbent seating actually embraces passengers in the event of a collision, rather than propel them forward like other maker’s seating. Though the XJ is equipped with a computerized chip key system, some buyers might be turned off by the expensive replacement and duplicate cost. However, each computerized chip is uniquely created for a specific 2009 XJ-Series model, so the risk of a break-in is significantly decreased.
Overall, the 2009 Jaguar XJ-Series is an elegant, powerful luxury sedan that includes standard features not seen in most other models on the American market. But, with 16 city MPG and 25 highway MPG, the XJ falls flat. Buyers looking for exceptional fuel economy will end up looking elsewhere. Nevertheless, for consumers seeking a highly customizable model that provides both status and safety, the Jaguar XJ-Series is a great match.
The car was numbered the XJ 140 and it came with two engines having six cylinders. There was a 2.9 liter engine that was only available in Europe and a 3.6 Liter engine. The XJ 12 was still available with a V12 engine. In 1989, the XJ 40 was introduced. It came with two engines - a 3.2 Liter and a 4.0 Liter engine. In 1994, an airbag on the passenger’s side was introduced. In 1995, the XJ 140 got a new design and new numbering. It was now called the XJ300 and it got a supercharged engine. In 1997, the fifth generation XJ Series was introduced and it came in four models that were all rear-wheel drive. The entry level model was powered by a 4.0 liter V8 engine, which also powered the Vanden Plas Series. A V12 engine powered the XJR and XJ 12 models, which were equipped with traction control. In 1996, legroom at the back was increased in the Vanden Plas and XJ12 models. 1n 1997, all engines got six cylinders and the V12 engine was taken out. In 1998, the XJ Series got airbags in the side for passengers seated in the front and new V8 engines were introduced. In 2000, a luxury model of the Vanden Plas was introduced with a navigation system. In 2001, the XJ Series got a system that warned the driver when reversing if something was obstructing their view, while the XJR got a back seat that was heated and the Vanden Plas came with all heated seats. In 2002, a sport model and XJ100 were introduced.
The XJ version was also sold by Daimler under the brand name Daimler Sovereign. In 1972, a XJ 12 version of the Jaguar XJ Series was launched with a 5.3 Liter V12 engine. The second generation XJ Series was launched in 1973 with a 3.4 Liter engine and the XJ 12 version was continued. The XJ Series also became available as a coupe. The second generation cars were built with a bigger body but small grille. In 1975, a two door coupe model was introduced which was called the XJC. It was a shorter version of the XJ model introduced in 1973. In 1979, the third generation XJ Series was introduced. The new car was powered by a 5.3 Liter V 12, 4.2 Liter or 3.4 Liter engine. The first two engines had a fuel injection system manufactured by Bosch. Also available under the Daimler brand name were four models titled the Daimler Sovereign, the Daimler Vanden Plas, the Daimler Double Six and the Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas. In 1982, the Interiors of the XJ Series were given a change with a computer being introduced on the V12 models. In 1983, the Sovereign brand name being used by Daimler was transferred to Jaguar and the Jaguar Sovereign came into the market.
S-Type. Jaguar predicts that the introduction of the XF will be a crowning achievement in automobile engineering. Consistent with its legacy of building high performance luxury cars that are beautiful as well as robust, the Jaguar XF is intended to be viewed as an alternative to the BMW 5-Series
With three models to choose from, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Supercharged, the XF will be available with a choice of engines including a supercharged 4.2L V-8 which produces 420hp and goes from 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds. A 6-speed automatic transmission employs either steering wheel mounted paddles or a novel device called the JaguarDrive Selector which is devised to seamlessly change gears. In collaboration with Apple Computers, the JaguarDrive Selector is a round metal knob which is positioned to rise from its flush position into the driver’s palm when he presses the start button. A twist of the knob activates the transmission and shift-by-wire assures the smoothest of gear transitions.
The fact that the Jaguar XF can comfortably seat 5 passengers is a testimony to its roominess and its position as a midsize luxury sedan. There are numerous features in the cockpit that are either controlled by touch sensors or proximity sensors, such as the glove box and interior lights. Expect top quality audio systems which include mp3 capability and 8-speaker sound. Voice activation for the navigation system and telephone are available on every model. It is the intention of Jaguar, with the XF’s new surface language and innovative technology, to not only replace the S-Type, but to establish a new era for itself as an automaker.
Driving the new 2009 Jaguar XF is an enjoyable experience due to its structural rigidity and relative light weight achieved by using modern materials like weight-saving aluminum and space shuttle-inspired geometry. Whether purchased for its luxury saloon-inspired amenities or its sports car underpinnings, the XF rewards the driver with breathtaking gratification.
Besides the new top-line XFR, there are three trims of the Jaguar XF available for 2010. They are the Luxury, Premium Luxury and the Portfolio. Discontinued is the previously available supercharged model .
All trims of the XF feature a 5.0L 385hp V8 that replaces the previous 4.2L 300hp V8. The XFR shows off a 5.0L 510hp supercharged V8 that will practically shoot you into orbit. All trims and models utilize a 6-speed automatic transmission with the famous JaguarDrive selector. This feature is unique in the industry as it uses a rotary knob for selecting gears as well as offering steering wheel-based paddle shifters for times when you just feel like shifting manually. The XFR features enhanced wheels, tires, braking and trim as well as the new Jaguar Adaptive Dynamic Suspension system. It considers the road conditions and automatically adjusts the suspension system to accommodate them. Safety features that are available include ABS braking, electronic anti-skid control, electronic traction control, electronic stability control, front/front side/side curtain airbags and much more. Popular optional features, paralleling those in the Hyundai Azera, include a high-tech navigational system, rearview and sideview cameras, monitoring for blind spots and adaptive cruise control systems.
One very notable feature for the 2010 XR by Jaguar is the JaguarSense proximity/touch system that senses when an occupant is searching for the glovebox. It automatically activates the interior lighting. This feature is standard on all trims and models as well. The Portfolio trim has standard heated and circulated frontal seating as well as unique trim designs for both the interior and exterior .
Premium Luxury trim models grant a rather impressive 18.2 combined mpg concerning fuel economy. The supercharged model averaged 17.9 mpg - not bad at all for a monster that pushes over 500 horses. Ride-wise, the Jaguar XF is a little bumpy on rippled roads - even with 19-inch alloy wheels. The supercharged XFR is likewise fidgety on its 20-inchers .
All trims handle very responsively and grip even tight corners well. Steering is likewise responsive - very well weighted and stunningly precise. All noises, both car-born and exterior, are muted effectively. Passengers are able to relax in quiet style and enjoy even the longest of trips. Regardless of the fact that all is quiet, the understated roar of both engines makes one know that there is a lot of power there - even while just pleasantly humming along .
All gauges are clear to view and all knobs and controls are unobstructed as well. Overall, the 2010 Jaguar XF is everything that you would expect from a new Jag. Luxury, power, responsive handling, beautiful styling and top-notch materials are all in place to make these machines some of the finest on the planet. Test drive your new Jaguar XF today and experience the sheer thrills for yourself.
Jaguar created the XF at its Whitley Development and Design Center in the United Kingdom. And while critics claim that the XF certainly doesn’t break the Jaguar mold, it definitely replicates the luxury and power that Jaguar has always been known for. Originally titled the C-XF (for concept XF), the sports sedan has veered slightly from the classic Jaguar design. The XF is built more in the style of a sports coupe, rather than a sedan. However, it does have four doors, putting it in the sedan category. Jaguar seems to be taking its cues from Mercedes, who has been developing similar vehicles for several years.
The Design Director for Jaguar, Ian Callum, says that the XF is made for “interesting, edgy people.” That is, interesting, edgy people with a lot of money. The base MSRP on the lowest trim is set to be $49,975. The XF undoubtedly is not a vehicle for every buyer. Also, while most people are seeking out vehicles that get the best gas mileage, the Jaguar XF only reaches 18 city MPG and 26 highway MPG. While that may seem high for a powerful V8, the fact that the vehicle is sold as a sedan puts it on the lower end of the fuel economy chain. However, anyone that purchases a $50,000 vehicle probably isn’t too terribly concerned with gas mileage.
Critics claim that the Jaguar XF fails to attract a younger set of consumers. Surely those same critics see that any vehicle in the XF’s price range will usually not attract younger buyers. They simply don’t have the means to afford it yet. If Jaguar wants to appeal to Generation Y, then they’ll have to start developing economy cars that are affordable. One technological advancement that may get some younger buyers on the sales lot is the JaguarSense System. This system allows drivers and passengers alike to merely wave their hands in front of light sensors to open the glove box and turn on interior lights.
Test drivers have said that the Jaguar XF is incredibly powerful, but also amazingly comfortable. The main aspect that test drivers seem to all agree on is that JaguarDrive starting system is overdone. It takes several practice runs for a driver to even become familiar with the specific sequence needed to start the XF. However, drivers with a fondness for Jaguar will be happy to know that the XF is true to the Jaguar brand.
The 3.0 ($49,000), the 4.0 ($56,000), and the R ($64,000). The 3.0 is powered by a three-liter, 235 horsepower V6 with an automatic transmission (six speed.) The 4.2 features a 300 horsepower, 4.2-liter V8, while the S-Type R has a 400 horsepower supercharged 4.2-liter V8.
Technology for adaptive restraint in the 3.0 protects occupants while systems for the control of the vehicle’s stabiliy ensure a smooth, safe driving experience. The mirror caps, the surround of the grill, and the blades of the bumpers all have a bright finish. The moonroof can be powered open and closed with a single touch of a button. Seating is upholstered in premium leather and offers sixteen levels of adjustment for the driver and twelve for the passenger.
Jaguar chose burled walnut for the trim and incorporated a standard audio combo with an option to add both navigation capability and Bluetooth connectivity. For the entertainment of rear occupants a DVD-based system may be added. The 4.2 offers a 320-watt Alpine audio unit playing across ten speakers standard.
The 2007 Jaguar S-type R package offers an even greater level of luxury with stylish exhaust tips of stainless steel, ebony window surrounds, exterior caps on the mirrors painted to match the body (as are the surround of the grill, the blades of the bumpers and the rear spoiler.) Looking to the interior you’ll find bird’s eye maple stained gray employed for the trim with the steering wheel and the knob of the gearshift wrapped in leather.
